The Pima County Board of Supervisors will vote at the April 1 meeting on a replacement process for District 5 Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, following her decision to run for Congress.
Grijalva submitted her resignation letter to Board Chair Rex Scott over the weekend, as Arizona’s resign-to run-law means she can’t hold the seat while running, and included a suggested two-week appointment process.
“I am requesting that this Board work quickly to appoint a replacement to ensure that District 5 has a representative as soon as possible during this critical time,” the letter reads.
If Grijalva’s timeline is approved, applications will open April 2 at 9 a.m. and close April 7 at 5 p.m. After that, an online forum with the League of Women Voters will be held for qualified candidates, and the remaining board members will be able to conduct individual interviews.
District 5 covers much of the Western and central portions of Tucson, including the University of Arizona campus.
Grijalva’s plan could put a new Supervisor in place by the second meeting of the month on April 15.
Her last day as a Supervisor is April 4.
