The University of Arizona has issued new guidance to international students and faculty about complying with President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

In a March 31 email, the UA International Student Services and International Faculty and Scholars advised its campus members from other countries to carry physical copies of their immigration documents at all times and ensure they have digital copies on their phones and computers.

“It is recommended that you carry a copy of your passport, I-94, and proof of status at all times,” the email reads.

The administration also warned that Border Patrol agents are able to conduct checks within 100 miles of the border, including on campus, and their devices and social media are subject to search.

“Officers may ask to inspect your devices. This is legally permitted. Refusal could result in delays or your device being held,” it read.

There are currently about 4,000 international students and 1,300 international faculty at the university.

University spokesman Mitch Zak said campus resources are available to help international students with concerns about travel restrictions and other changes in immigration enforcement:

International Student Services and International Faculty/Scholar Services monitor immigration-related developments and provide students and scholars with updates to ensure they are informed and in compliance with federal regulations. We encourage international students and scholars to contact International Student Services or International Faculty/Scholar Services with any questions. University staff are available to support their success and compliance.
