Tucson Botanical Gardens has thousands of plants on its nearly 6-acre property on Alvernon Way south of Grant Road. In May of 2025, it bought Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson. Yume takes up less than an acre and is one block south of Tucson Botanical Gardens.
Tucson Botanical Gardens, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, acquired a much younger facility to its south, Yume Japanese Gardens of Tucson, which opened in 2011.
Tucson Botanical Gardens, which encompasses nearly six acres, will be taking stock of the plants, buildings and other elements at Yume, which takes up less than an acre, and plans to reopen Yume to the public in 2026.
Staff are also taking a look at the fee and membership structure, to figure out whether one amount will get visitors into both gardens or if there will be separate entrance costs and membership benefits, for example.
This summer, Tucson Botanical Gardens is working on improvements to its property, and that will include a new garden honoring Frida Kahlo which will officially open in October as part of Tucson Botanical Gardens' anniversary celebrations.
